The person
behind the numbers.
A fractional CFO practice is only as good as the practitioner in the seat. So it is worth knowing who that is, and how they work.

In the first person
I am Jordan Duncan. I hold a Master of Science in Finance, and I spend my working life on the same narrow set of problems: what the cash is going to do, where the margin actually is, and what a company should do next given both.
What drew me to fractional work is the proximity. In a large finance function, the analysis travels through several layers before it reaches anyone who can act on it, and it loses most of its usefulness on the way. Working directly with owners, the distance between the finding and the decision is a single conversation — which is where finance is at its most valuable and, frankly, its most interesting.
Most of my clients arrived at the same place by different routes. The company had grown past the reporting that got it there, the owner was making real decisions on instinct because instinct was what was available, and nobody was accountable for the forward view. The work is rarely exotic. It is a maintained forecast, honest margin, a reporting pack that tells the truth, and someone in the room who has seen the pattern before.
I work from Dallas and take clients nationwide. You will always be dealing with me.
How I work
Four commitments,
kept in every engagement.
- 01
The number comes before the opinion
Advice you can act on is advice with arithmetic underneath it. If I cannot show you the calculation, I will tell you it is a judgment call rather than dress it up as analysis.
- 02
Written for the owner, not the auditor
Reporting that requires an accounting background to interpret has failed at its job. The monthly pack is written to be read by the person making the decision, in the time they actually have.
- 03
Bad news early
A covenant that will be tight in five months, a customer whose concentration is now a risk, a price that has been below cost since last spring — you hear these the month I see them, not the quarter they become urgent.
- 04
One principal, no handoffs
You are not introduced to a senior name and then passed to an associate. The person in the first call is the person building your forecast and sitting in your monthly session.

Thirty minutes,
and a straight answer.
Bring one question you cannot currently answer from your own reporting. If a fractional CFO is not the right answer, you will hear that on the call — there is no proposal waiting at the end of it.
